INTERNATIONAL OBOE COMPETITION

The Giuseppe Ferlendis International Competition and the Luca Figaroli International Competition, conceived by the Gruppo Ricerca Storica in 2004, aim to enhance the figure of Giuseppe Ferlendis, oboist of the second half of the eighteenth century, originally from Adrara San Martino and to remember Luca Figaroli, a promising young oboist who died prematurely.

 

This year the Ferlendis Association dedicates the "Giuseppe Ferlendis" prize to Salvatore Tancredi, friend, creator and producer of the International Oboe Competition, who passed away 3 years ago during the last edition.

 

REGULATION

1 The competitions will take place in Adrara San Martino (Bg):

a) The IX International Competition "G. Ferlendis" from 2nd to 4th September 2022

b) The VI International Competition for Young Oboists "L. Figaroli" from 3rd to 4th September 2022.

 

2 The IX International Competition "G. Ferlendis" is reserved for oboists born after 1st January 1987.

The VI International Competition for Young Oboists "L. Figaroli" will be divided into three categories:

- Category A: born after 1st January 2010

- Category B: born between 1st January 2007 and 31st December 2009

- Category C: born between 1st January 2004 and 31st December 2006.

4 The registration fee (€ 80.00 for the IX International Competition "G. Ferlendis" and € 50.00 for the VI International Competition for Young Oboists "L. Figaroli") is to be paid by bank transfer to:

In case of absence of the competitor, the fee will not be refunded.

 

5 Applications for registration must be made by filling in the form attached to these regulations and providing all the information requested on the form itself; they must be accompanied by:

a) birth certificate on free paper or copy of identity document not expired

b) copy of the bank transfer made

c) signed privacy form

d) list of selected pieces to be performed during the Competition

e) read and signed "Covid Rules" form.

 

6 The application forms, complete and accompanied by the required documentation, must be sent no later than 31st July 2022.

 

7 IX INTERNATIONAL OBOE COMPETITION "G. FERLENDIS"

1) ELIMINATORY TEST

W. A. MOZART Concerto K 314 for oboe and orchestra 1st and 2nd movement (without cadences).

The commission may request some excerpts from the Concert n. 1 in F major for oboe and orchestra by G. Ferlendis.

 

2) SEMI-FINALS

a) A song of your choice:

- C. PH. E. BACH Sonata in A minor (G minor) for oboe (flute) solo without bass - 1st and 2nd movement

- J. S. BACH Match in A minor (G minor) BWV 1013 - 1st and 3rd  movement

- Sonata in G minor for oboe and harpsichord (piano) BWV 1030 b - 1st and 2nd movement

- A. VIVALDI Concerto in C major F7 n. 6 - 1st and 2nd movement.

 

b) A song of your choice:

- R. SCHUMANN  Three romanze for oboe and piano op 94 - two romanze of your choice

- H. DUTILLEUX  Sonata for oboe and piano - 1st and 2nd movement

- B. BRITTEN Six Metamorphoses after Ovid - two metamorphoses of your choice

- C. SAINT-SAËNS Sonata for oboe and piano - 1st and 2nd movement.

 

3) FINAL TEST

a)  G. FERLENDIS Concert n. 1 in F major for oboe and orchestra (oboe and piano ed. Musedita)

 

b) A song of your choice:

 

- H. HOLLIGER  Sonata for oboe solo - 1st and 2nd movement

- L. BERIO  Sequence VII for oboe solo

- G. SILVESTRINI  Two studies of your choice

- I. YUN  Piri.

 

c) A song of your choice:

 

- R. STRAUSS Concerto for oboe - 1st and 2nd movement with cadence

- A.PASCULLI  Concert for oboe and piano on the themes of the opera "La Favorita".

- B. MARTINU Concert for oboe 2nd and 3rd movement with cadences

- TH. LALLIET Prelude and vibrations from the Carnival of Venice for oboe and piano op. 20.

 

VI INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION FOR YOUNG OBOISTS "L. FIGAROLI"

 

PROGRAMMA

 

Category A: free choice program with a maximum execution time of 10 minutes.

Category B: free choice program with the performance of two pieces of different periods with a maximum duration of 15 minutes.

Category C: free choice program with the performance of two pieces of different periods with a maximum duration of 20 minutes.

 

For all categories the performance of at least one piece with piano accompaniment is required. Competitors, at the time of registration, must provide a copy of the pieces they intend to perform.

 

8 The Selection Boards of the Competitions will be composed of the Masters:

Paolo Grazia: "Bologna Municipal Theater"

Christoph Hartmann: Berliner Philharmoniker

Luca Vignali: Opera House from Rome.

 

9  The judgement of the Selection Board is final, unquestionable and unchallengeable.

 

10 If a candidate is a pupil of a member of the Jury, the member will abstain from voting.

 

11 On the same day as the Competition, the competitors must present the Selection Board with a valid identity document and the program of the chosen pieces.

 

12 The Jury reserves the right to shorten the duration of the performance.

 

13 The Organization of the Competition will make available to competitors who do not have the accompanist pianists M. Luca De Gregorio and M. Mary Fujino. The piano will be tuned with the a 442Hz.

 

14 The candidates admitted to the final round will have the opportunity to try with the accompanying pianist.

 

15 The winners will be required to participate free of charge and obligatorily in the final concert, penalty exception of prizes, at the end of which the awards ceremony will be made. The concert dress is a must.

 

16 Recording by competitors is not allowed.

 

17  In case of radio and/or television recordings made by the Organization, the competitors will not be able to ask for any compensation.

 

18 Competitors must preferably perform at least one of the proposed pieces by heart.

 

19 The Organization reserves the right to make any changes to this notice, to cancel all or part of the Competition, if causes beyond its control prevent it from being carried out, in which case, the registration fee already paid will be refunded.

 

20 Pursuant to Legislative Decree 196/2003, the Gruppo Ricerca Storica - Associazione Musicale Ferlendis informs that the data provided at the time of registration will be stored and used exclusively for the purpose of sending communications relating to the Association.

 

21 The submission of the application implies the total and unconditional acceptance of all the rules contained in this notice.

 

22 The accommodation costs are to be borne by the competitors.

 

23 Each participant may enter only one Competition. Entry may be made for a category higher than their own.

 

24 The organization and management of the competition are entrusted to the Gruppo Ricerca Storica - Associazione Musicale Ferlendisal, which can be contacted for further information of an organizational and logistical nature, by sending an e-mail to: info@oboeferlendis.it or calling the following number: +39 035934387.

 

25 On Friday 2th and Saturday 3st and Sunday 4st September the Marchi company will set up a stand next to the theatre with an exhibition of the best brands of oboes and the possibility of a free check-up on the instruments.
